Get to Know Your Camera!

Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18, 2019 — 10-2pm

Instructors:
Zachary Stephens
is the Program Director at In-Sight and has taught at Keene State College, Landmark College, and the Community College of Vermont. An experienced photojournalist, he worked as the Photo Editor for the Brattleboro Reformer, and as a freelance photographer with work appearing in the New York Times, Boston Globe, USA Today, Burlington Free Press, Rutland Herald, Seven Days, and more. His recent work about fatherhood has been exhibited in several galleries nationwide. He earned his MFA in Visual Art from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and a certificate in professional photography from the Hallmark Institute of Photography.

Michael Riley graduated from Marlboro College in 2009 where he studied writing and photography. He has been connected with In-Sight on and off since 2005 including a stint as a AmeriCorps VISTA and, as of last year, a member of the board. During that time he has taught both analog and digital classes doing everything from pinhole cameras to stop-motion animation.

Course Description:
This digital photography workshop will give an opportunity for participants to learn more about their cameras, the basics of manual camera operation (F-stops, Shutter Speed, ISO, etc.), and an introduction to post-production in Adobe Lightroom. Participants will also be guided through several exercises to make new photographs during the workshop, including portraits, city-scapes, and still lives.

Participants:
Minimum of 4 – Maximum of 10 participants

Materials & Equipment Participants Should Bring:

  • Each participant must bring their own digital camera, preferably a DSLR or mirrorless camera with full manual control. Please inquire if you are not sure if you have the right camera.

  • Each participant should have their own flash drive or portable hard drive to store their photos upon completion of the workshop. We recommend drives at a minimum of 64GB.

Materials provided at the workshop:

  • Computers with Adobe Lightroom installed. If you would like to bring your own laptop, you are welcome to do so.

  • Lunch will be provided. Please indicate your dietary restrictions in the registration form.
