Exposures 2019 Summer Program Application

Thank you for your interest in the Summer 2019 Exposures Program. This year’s program will be held on the Pine Ridge Reservation, home to the Lakota Tribal members, from June 29 to July 20. Led by a dedicated staff of five facilitators – including both John Willis, the Exposures Program’s co-founder, and Victoria Davis, the director of Exposures’ home organization, the In-Sight Photography Project – approximately fifteen participants will spend three weeks in this host community living, traveling, and making photographs as a group. Daily workshops will introduce you to new camera techniques and help you practice image capturing and editing skills while you pursue creative projects. Workshops will also include guided discussions about cultural understanding and the role of art in social justice. Your weeks will consist of many afternoons visiting communities on Pine Ridge to meet people, make photographs, and attend local events. Weekend trips are exciting opportunities to explore the varied landscapes on Pine Ridge and in surrounding areas in South Dakota. Recent trips have included sunrise photo shoots in Badlands National Park and hiking in the Black Hills - including visits to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument. The program culminates with a group exhibition of your creative work and a community dinner that we serve to all attendees.

We look forward to meeting a wonderful group of creative and diverse participants this summer. Watch this video: https://youtu.be/ImWJ9hht1xo for more!
