Analog Photography 1 & 2
Any Skill Level
Instructors: Xan Pirdy
July 6th-10th
Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm
This course is for students ready to deepen their analog photography practice through technical challenges and creative experimentation. Assignments will focus on shooting in varied lighting conditions, still life/object studies, and more intentional approaches to composition and exposure.
We’ll dedicate class time to hands-on shooting—both on photowalks and in a studio portrait setup—and introduce the basics of large format photography through a collaborative class portrait using a 4x5 camera.
In the darkroom, students will explore advanced printing techniques, including double exposure printing. A special session will be dedicated to making large 11x14” prints using materials from the studio’s “hit-or-miss” donation boxes—embracing chance and creativity in the process.
All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.
This class is open to ages 11-18.

Creating Characters
Any Skill Level
Instructors: Hazel Wagner & Liliana Martel
August 3rd- August 7th
Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm
Often, photography is viewed as fact, a clear image depicting a real-life scene. What happens when we turn fact to fiction? What happens when we capture something that's intended to fantasize rather than to tell the truth?
In this week-long course, students will explore transforming themselves and their images with fantastical elements. Turning into an astronaut in outer space, decorated as an Olympic athlete, an animal in the forest, Oskar the Grouch, your grandma, or something beyond the imagination. We will explore the world of photography as deception, narrative, role-playing, and characterization. We will develop skills in lighting, studio photography, acting, and Photoshop. We will study photographers who are experts in transforming their subjects, and learn how to deceive the viewer into believing the truth we present them with.
All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.
This class is appropriate for students ages 11-18.

This class is for those interested in learning about and photographing the natural world. Each day, students will use cameras to explore notable natural environments in our region. For this class we are partnering with the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center to give students in-depth experiences of mountaintops, winding rivers, rock-bound ponds, and more. We will take digital cameras to these places and use them to notice and photograph their intricate ecologies. This class will involve extensive hiking, environmental science, and a newfound sense of how photography can help us see the world in greater detail.
All equipment will be provided by In-Sight.
